Help! It’s Time to Renew My Illinois Video Gaming License

December 30, 2017

Hopefully, you’ve been enjoying the benefits of video gaming in your business and your customers have been thrilled with the great set-up you have in your location. There will come a time each year when you will have to dedicate just a little bit of effort to renew your gaming license with the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB). Fear not – this handy how-to will help you prepare for license renewal (your Terminal Operator should also be able to assist in this process).

Prepare

Make sure you are prepared to update any information that might have changed since you last obtained or renewed your video gaming license:

  • ownership interest*
  • liquor license numbers and expiration dates
  • email addresses
  • home addresses
  • telephone numbers

* You should be notifying the IGB and your Terminal Operator as soon as possible, when there is a change in corporate structure or ownership at your location (i.e. sole proprietorship to corporation, sale, closing of business).  This includes changes in membership at veteran’s organizations or fraternal organizations. Failure to timely notify can result in rejection of your renewal.Download this guide to gaming revenue

Wait for your email

You will receive an email (to the email address on file with the IGB) approximately one month before the license is up for renewal that provides further detail on what you will need to do to renew.

Your license will expire on the date of the IGB meeting in the month your license was originally issued.  For example, if your license is set to expire in November 2018, you must renew by November 2, 2018 – which is the date of the November 2018 IGB meeting.  The IGB meeting dates for 2018 are posted on the IGB website.

The IGB website states that you should NOT send in payment until after you’ve received your email indicating that your license is up for renewal.

Make Your Payment

You have a few options to make a payment to the IGB for your renewal:

  • Pay online with a credit card through their E-Pay system (side note: you will need your IGB license number in order to pay online)
  • Payments can still be made by check or money order and should be mailed to the IGB at the address listed on your invoice.

Failure to renew your license will result in the machines being shut off – yikes! If this should happen, be sure to pay your renewal fee within 10 business days of your license expiration. As long as there are no other issues with your license renewal, your VGTs can be turned on once payment is received. If payment is made past the 10-day grace period, you will need to go through the process of re-applying for your video gaming license again.
