The Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) meeting on June 6th, 2024, brought many new developments, including the proposal of TITO (ticket in, ticket out), which would greatly affect the Illinois video gaming industry.
The definition of video gaming terminals (VGTs) was changed during the June 6th IGB meeting to make TITO legal in the future in the state of Illinois. TITO is already in other video gaming markets outside Illinois, after first being introduced in Nevada in the early 2000s. The proposal in Illinois could mean great things for the Illinois video gaming market, as there are many advantages to TITO compared to the current system.
TITO can lead to an easier and more secure method of play because there is less cash moving overall. For Accel locations, your machines will require less frequent cash collections, which means less downtime so your patrons can continue playing longer. Players can redeem credits on their current machine and use those credits to play on a different machine. This offers the Illinois gaming industry a unique opportunity to move closer to being cashless.
Another important development from the June 6th IGB meeting is that the 10-year contract with the current Central Communications System (CCS) provider, Light & Wonder, has expired. The CCS monitors VGT operations and records accounting data. The IGB is currently undergoing the process to accept bids to enter into a new contract with a CCS provider. Stay tuned for new developments like this taking place in the Illinois video gaming industry.
