Walking to Cure Alzheimer’s

Sometimes our blogs are about marketing, sometimes they’re about the Illinois Gaming Board, and sometimes they’re about stories we just have to share. This one falls into the latter category.

Accel Entertainment employee Andy Braden is a Gaming Service Technician who works in our Champaign office. This week, as Braden was driving to a location, he passed a man in a bright orange and yellow vest pushing a stroller along the side of the street. Braden immediately pulled his car to the side of the road to stop the man - he knew exactly who he was.

Lance Tittle and his wife were together more than 50 years when she died of Alzheimer’s last year. To cure his grief and raise money to find a cure for the disease, Tittle is walking all the way across the country with her ashes. According to sources, Tittle had promised his wife they would travel. When she got sick they didn’t get the chance.

This week Tittle is crossing Illinois, and that’s where Braden ran into him.

Andy Braden has worked for Accel Entertainment since March of 2014. His mother, Dorothy Braden, is currently living with Alzheimer’s, so Tittle’s journey struck an immediate chord with him. Braden’s family, including his sister Abby Braden McCoy, have been looking for outlets to manage their own grief over their mother’s illness. They’re currently working to bring their family together this summer to celebrate their mother’s life along with her. Seeing Tittle meant a great deal to Braden and his family.

Braden recounts that he gave Tittle the Alzheimer’s bracelet he keeps in his car since his mother was diagnosed. Tittle appeared touched, and put the bracelet on, saying he’d take it with him across the country. 

We’re so glad Braden had this run in, as he seemed truly touched by the experience when sharing it with fellow employees. We want to wish good luck to Lance Tittle on his journey and share our support in his cause to honor all those afflicted with this disease and to help find a cure.
